WP3: Ecological relations between abiotic and biotic floodplain characteristics

WP3 aims to provide insights in relations between flora and fauna and the abiotic factors in floodplains.

Changes in the hydrology (e.g. groundwater level) and geomorphology (e.g. river and floodplain morphology) have an impact on the ecology of floodplains. In WP3, abiotic factors influencing the present flora and fauna will be described in detail for several river valleys. Next, these ecological relationships will be modeled using the NICHE model. In a final step, the potential fauna and flora of floodplains will be simulated under changing geohydrological conditions, and management measures will be evaluated to obtain good ecological quality of floodplain vegetation.
